Our Department

Economics of culture as a field of study is one of the most popular program at world’s top universities these days and it represents a great challenge for the Prague University of Economics and Business. The Arts Management program is focused on leading and preparing its students to become experts on management of cultural projects from the very beginning, ranging from cultural heritage to contemporary production. During the program, students will become familiar not only with management and marketing in creative industries, but also with business evaluation of cultural events.

The Department of Arts Management operates at the Faculty of Business Administration of the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE). The focus of the department is to interlink two seemingly unlinkable areas – arts and economy. In the Czech tradition of cultural policy and culture in itself there is a strong believe that economics, its methodology, its different point of view, its philosophy harms the fragile world of culture.

We do not share this attitude. For almost ten years we have been permanently developing interconnection of these two contesting worlds not only through our pedagogical activities but mainly through our scientific activities. We are honoured that we became frequent and trustable partner of numerous public institutions, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic included, which address our Department with various tasks and projects.

The members of the Department of Arts Management are considered to be truly respected experts in their academic field, ranging from marketing, media, management and economics to art history, cultural policy and tourism. The goal of Arts management is not simple – just to raise the best Arts managers in the Czech Republic who can enrich Czech culture and help it to flourish.

Development of the Department of Arts Management is very relevant to the general aims of the Prague University of Economics and Business, which is the most traditional and, at the same time, the most dynamic university of economics in the Czech Republic. Current status of this university puts it among some of the world’s best schools which focus on new and progressive economic disciplines. Economics of culture as a field of study is one of the most popular program at world’s top universities these days and it represents a great challenge for the University of Economics. The purpose of such fields is to reflect on current development trends of world economics and to create a strong background knowledge, both theoretical and practical, which is to be used for the purposes of management of the Czech cultural heritage in highly competitive market of European and global cultural production.

The Arts Management program is focused on leading and preparing its students to become experts on management of cultural projects from the very beginning, ranging from cultural heritage to contemporary production. During the program, students will become familiar not only with management and marketing in creative industries, but also with business evaluation of cultural events.
